Lime and slaked lime are both used to reduce these sulfur emission. Slaked lime reacts with chlorine gas to produce the bleaching agent calcium hydrochloride - comman from of swimming pool chlorine.

When chlorine is passed over slaked lime(Ca(OH)2) it is immediately assimilated to produce bleaching powder or either a chloride of lime.

Slaked lime responds with chlorine gas to generate the bleaching agent calcium hypochlorite – a general kind of 'swimming pool' chlorine. When smelted with coke, a kind of carbon, calcium oxide consolidates to produce calcium carbide. When calcium carbide is combined with water, a gas described as acetylene is generated.
