1. when CO2 is passed through lime water Ca(OH)2 for a short period of time... the following reaction takes place and lime water turns milky due to the formation of white precipitate

Ca(OH)2  + CO2 ---> CaCO3  + H2O

2. when CO2 is passed through lime water Ca(OH)2 for a considerable time, then the white precipitate of CaCO3 dissolves due to formation of a soluble salt  calcium hydrogen carbonate and the solution becomes clear again

CaCO3 + CO2  + H2O ---> Ca(HCO3)2

Hey,

lime water is nothing but calcium hydroxide in water.

when Carbon dioxide is passed in to lime water, the carbon dioxide reacts with Calcium hydroxide to form a white precipitate

This white precipitate is nothing but calcium carbonate.
