Answer:

oxide formed is black in colour. The black colour is formed due to the oxidation of copper takes place. (b) When hydrogen gas is passed over hot copper oxide, the black coating on the surface turns brown as the reverse reaction takes place and copper is obtained.

When copper powder is heated in a china dish then Oxidation of copper takes place.

- The name of product formed is Copper (II) Oxide and it is black in colour.

- This chemical reaction is given as:

2 Cu (s) + O₂ (g) → 2 CuO (s)

- When hydrogen gas is passed over this black copper (II) oxide, it converts back into metallic copper.

- This chemical reaction is given as:

CuO (s) + H₂ (g) → Cu (s) + H₂O
