Sodium reacts vigorously with cold water forming sodium hydroxide and hydrogen gas. This reaction is highly exothermic. When dilute sulphuric acid is poured on a copper plate, no reaction takes place. Copper does not react with dilute hydrochloric acid or dilute sulphuric acid at all.
