When ​dilute sulphuric acid is added to a mixture of iron fillings and sulphur powder, reaction occusrs between dilute sulphuric acid and iron filings that forms ferrous sulphate and evolution of hydrogen.

Fe + H2SO4 = FeSO4 + H2
