when ethanol is heated with excess of conc.H2SO4; ethene is formed
CH3CH2OH→C2H4 in the presence of conc.H2SO4
H2SO4 acts as a dehydrating agent

When ethanol is heated in excess of H2SO4,ethanol loses 1 molecule of water and change to ethene.
