When ethanol is oxidised, it gains an oxygen atom and becomes ethanoic acid. The formula of ethanol is C2H5OH and the formula of ethanoic acid is CH3COOH. As u can see, ethanol has 1 oxygen atom but when it gets oxidised it gets 2 oxygen atoms n becomes ethanoic acid.
