What happens when Geminal dihalides are treated with aq.KOH?

Explanation:

If we treat vicinal/geminal dihalide with aq KOH then product forms diols and further on dehydration it give Aldehyde/ketone. If vicinal/geminal di halide is treated with alcoholic KOH then the product form is alkene.
