When liquid ammonia is kept in the open air it gets evaporated.
- The boiling point of liquid ammonia is too low so it is kept in ice.
- Its boiling temperature is -33°c so ammonia starts boiling and gets evaporated at room temperature because room temperature is generally taken at 25°c which is higher than the boiling temperature of ammonia.
- Also, the vapour pressure of liquid ammonia is high enough so on cooling due to depression in freezing point its vapour pressure decreases. so it does not evaporate if first stored in ice.
