What happens when magnesium burns in air? Also, write the chemical reaction involved in it​

Whenever we perform any combustion reaction, the combustible material reacts with the atmospheric oxygen and produce new oxide substances.

Similarly,if we burn magnesium in open air it will create a white powder like substance which is known as the magnesium oxide.

Chemical equation :

2Mg+O2 = 2MgO . (Answer)

The produced magnesium oxide or MgO is a strong hygroscopic substance which absorbs the moisture from the atmosphere.

meanwhile u think that its burning thats not what actually happens

magnesium reacts with oxygen in presence of heat ( since its not very reactive) to form magnesium oxide which ia basic in nature
