Explanation:

  • When acids react with metals, they produce a salt and hydrogen gas. Most metals react with acids, but not all. The general equation that describes the chemical reaction between an acid and metal is metal + acid = salt + hydrogen gas.

Metal + Acid ⇒ Salts of metals + Hydrogen

The Reaction depends upon the reactivity series.

For Example:

K + HCl ⇒ KCl + H

Even though the equation is not balanced you can estimate it.

K=Potassium  HCl=Hydrochloric Acid  KCl= Potassium Chloride  H=Hydrogen

But as the reactivity series is decreased no reaction is seen.

For example.

Cu    +     HCl  ⇒  No reaction

(Copper)

And you can note down the reactivity series.

K (potassium)                       |

Na (sodium)                          |

Mg (Magnesium)                  |   As the series decreases the reaction is lesser.

Al (aluminium)                      ↓

Zn (Zinc)

Fe ( Ferrous)(Iron)

Cu ( Copper)

Hg ( Mercury)

Ag (Gold)

Au (gold)

There Is more big reactivity series but in 8th grade you have to learn this only.
