They typically react with water to form bases or with acids to form salts. MO + H2O → M(OH)2 (where M = group 2 metal) Thus, these compounds are often called basic oxides.

Answer:

When metal reacts with oxygen they form metallic oxides. E.g. - 2Cu + O↓2 — 2CuO

And, when these metallic oxides reacts with base, they form nothing because metallic oxides are basic in nature, so basic produces nothing with other basic solution.

But if the if it is an amphoteric oxide [ those metal oxides which react with acids and bases, like aluminium oxides and zinc oxides] then, after reaction salt and water are produced.

Al↓2O↓3 + 6HCl — 2AlCl↓3 + 3H↓2O
