Metals +O2 = metal oxide
Metal oxide dissolve in water from base - turns red litmus to blue .
Ex : 2Mg +o2 = 2Mgo (Magnesium oxide)
Non-metals+O2=Non-metal oxide
Non-metals dissolve in water and forms acid , turns blue litmus to red
Ex : So2 + H2O = H2SO3 (Sulphurous acid)
