Answer:

mucous act as the protective covering for the HCL secreted by the gastric gland.and Also help in movement of bolus.if it is not secreted properly then acidity will increase and food will not digest properly

if mucus is not secreted

in nose dust particals will enter into nose

in oesophagus food (bolus) cannot pass easily into stomach

in stomach. due to action of HCl the wall of stomach may be damaged

so it is very important to secrete mucus
