The cell will lose water and began to shrink whenever it is placed in a hypertonic solution

*Hypertonic solution - A solution with high concentration of solute and less concentration of water.

When onoin peel cells are placed in a hypertonic solution, there is less water concentration in the cells as compared to the surrounding solution. So, the water from the cell will come out to the solution and thus the cells will shrink. Hence, Ex-osmosis will take place and plasmolysis will take place in the plant cell.

* Ex-osmosis : The movement of water from the cell to the surrounding solution.

* Plasmolysis : The shrinkage of the inner content of the plant cell due to loss of water is known as plasmolysis.
