There are two halides group of the phosphorous form, one if PCl3 which is phosphorous trihalides whereas other is PCl5 which is phosphorous pentahalide.

The PCl5 is the form that is used to undergo the sp3 d hybridization and follow up the trigonal bipyramidal structure.

The bond of the structure made it less stable to work and hence it will decompose to PCl3 on heating.
