What happens when sodium bicarbonate reacts with dilute hydrochloric acid? How will we check the
presence of gas evolved from the reaction mixture? Explain with the help of equations.

Answer:

NaHCO3+HCI->NaCI+H2O+CO2

CO2 gas can be checked by passing it through lime water.On passing lime water will be milky due to the formation of precipitate of calcium carbonate.

Ca(OH)2+CO2->CaCO3+H2O
