when sodium burns in oxygen it will formed sodium oxide Na2O with lot of heat evolved

Na + O2 ------>Na2O + heat energy

When sodium is heated & put into a jar full of oxygen, it generates a lot of heat & light. When the reaction is over, sodium oxide(Na20) is left.
