Sodium is highly reactive in the atmosphere so it is kept in kerosene. ifsodium will exposed to the atmosphere then there may have some explosive effect. When sodium exposed in air. It burns vigorously.The metal react with Air and form metal oxide.

sodium is highly reactive when sodium is in contact with air it becomes explosive and the reaction take place is exothermic .
