Sodium reacts violently with water, because amount of released energy is more than the ignition temperature of hydrogen gas liberated, so hydrogen gas catches fire

It is hydrolysed when it’s dissolved in water, to produce sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide:

Na2O2 + H2O → 2NaOH + H2O2

Sodium reacts violently with water, because amount of released energy is more than the ignition temperature of hydrogen gas liberated, so hydrogen gas catches fire.
