Answer:

When Sulphur dioxide reacts with water, in the presence of excess SO2, Sulphuric acid is formed else Sulphurous Acid is formed. Both the reactions are exothermic.

SO2 + H2O --> H2SO4

OR

SO2 + H2O --> H2SO3

Hope this helps you.

When Sulphur Dioxide reacts with water sulphurous acid is formed.

  • Sulfuric acid is a strong acid.
  • When sulfuric acid is dissolved in water it reacts with water and forms sulphurous acid.
  • The balanced chemical equation of the reaction is as follows-
  • SO_2+H_2O\rightarrow H_2SO_3.
  • In the above reaction, one mole of sulfuric acid reacts with one mole of water to form one mole of sulphurous acid.
