<b>If the egg is not fertilised it lives for about one day. Since the ovary releases one egg every month the uterus also prepares itself every month to recieve fertilised eggs. Thus its lining become thick and spongy. This would be required for nourishing the embroyo if fertilisation had taken place.

Now, however, this lining is not needed any longer. So, the lining slowly breaks and comes out through vagina as blood and mucous. This cycle takes place roughly every month and is known as mensturation.

When ovary releases after 28 days it is called ovulation.

If egg is not fertilized the ovary breaks down.

If egg is not fertilized the hormones will not releases.

The unfertilized egg goes down to the uterus and come out with blood.
