On extracting resources at a more rapid pace than its regeneration, the carrying capacity of the environment reduces, leading to a failure in its life sustaining function. This results in environmental crises, one of the common problems faced by almost all the countries of the world.

When the rate of resource extraction is above the rate of regeneration of the resource and the wastes generated are outside the assimilating capacity of the environment, the environment fails to perform its third and vital function of life sustenance and this results in an environmental crisis.
