HEy User here is your answer :-
When the person tried to hit the snake it didn't actually hit the snake then the snake turns it's body into beautiful curves and tries to escape from the onslought . the snake tries to escape beautiful through the water while doing so the snake creates ripples and vanishes .....
the education of the poet and the voices of the society were responsible for this act of the narrator .
although the narrator regrets after this ....
HOPE It Helps you !!!!.......

the log with which the poet tried to hit the snake did not actually hit him but the snake could feel that something was coming to hit him so he rushed straight away to his den.
after that the poet was really upset. he was blaming the education given to him which forced him to hit the snake. he thought that he lost the chance to stay with the king of snakes who was soon going to be crowned.the poet considered his act to br very rude, harsh.
he finds his act to be similar to that of ancient mariner who had killed an albatross.now he wishes the snake to come back so that he could apologise to the uncrowned king in the underworld.
the expressions which shows his guilt are ' a sort of horror', a sort of protest, i thought how paltry, how vulgar, what a mean act, i despised myself, to expiate,a pettiness.
hope it helps you.
