there's a change in its state of matter

candycane1: it changes from solid to liquid
Akash98987: if it is heated above its melting point
candycane1: it changes from solid to liquid

when we give heat to a solid, then the temperature will rise and after some time rising temperatures will stop and then it starts melting .during the process of melting ,the heat is given is used to overcome the intermolecular forces of attraction between the particles and there is no any rise in kinetics energy of the particle.and thus the heat given remain stored in the contents of the beaker and is called the latent heat of fusion.
