What happens when toluene reacts with carboxylic acid?

Partial oxidation of toluene in the presence of manganese dioxide and dilute sulphuric acid at 208 k temperature also forms benzaldehyde. when toluene is refluxed with alkaline KMnO4 solution ( aqueous KMnO4 + Na2C03), it is oxidised to benzoic acid......
