- When two metallic solutions react, their ions are exchanged.
- Less reactive element is displaced by a more reactive element.
- Also known as metathesis reaction.
- In these reactions, exchange of ions take place between two reactants.
For example -
When NaCl reacts with CaSO4, Na reacts with SO4 to form Na2SO4 and Ca reacts with Cl to form CaCl2.
2NaCl + CaSO4 --> Na2SO4 + CaCl2
