What happens when water is added to quicklime?

YadavShashi: When water is added to calcium oxide (quicklime), it will be converted to calcium hydroxide (slaked lime) with the liberation of enormous amount of heat.

CaO + H2O = Ca(OH)2 + heat

It is an exothermic reaction. Calcium hydroxide is an alkali.

When Calcium oxide i.e. quick lime is added to water filled in a bucket, it reacts vigorously with water to produce slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) releasing a large amount of heat
