The caustic soda solution or copper sulfate solution on mixing with the egg white will show nothing.

This test is done to check the protein in a food item, the mixture will turn violet in the presence of caustic soda.

However, the yellow portion of the egg is protein rich.

But in the experiment, there is only white which will show no result at all.

When caustic soda solution and copper sulphate solution are added in a test tube containing egg white it turns into violet colour.

This test is done to test the protein content that is present in the food molecules. Though only the yellow part of the egg contains the maximum amount of protein, egg white also shows a mild violet colour due to the small amount of protein in them.

The caustic soda increases the pH that causes the colour change from blue to violet.
