artificial respiration is the act of assisting and stimulaing respiration .it is a metabollic process of exchange of gases

Respiration is the term for the exchange of oxygen from the environment for carbon dioxide from the body's cells.  mouth to mouth is usually used in tandem with CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)  which is used to manually pump the blood, in lie u of the failing heart...
