there is no reaction possible at ordinary temp because
in lot of case chemical reaction can be seen as one taking the place of or removing the partner from another.
In this question the only particles present articles and ions in hydrochloric acid. (H+ and Cl-)
for any reaction to take place charcoal you would have to take electron from Cl- ions to form S2 - ions and the caloric Cl- ions would have to become chlorine atom (then Cl2 molecules)
however charcoal is much less reactive than hydrochloric and cannot do this .
hence no reaction.
