What happens when you do not have reflex action?

 you probably know how nerve impulses travel through the body!! so for eg: if we touch something hot and the message was to be sent to the brain the nerve impulse has to travel to the brain.in the brain this data in thought about and an output or a reaction is again sent to the effector muscle .thinking is a complex activity and is bound to involve a complicated interaction of many nerve impulses from various neurons.so if all this to be done when we are touching an hot object then we'd probably get burnt!! hence we need faster ways of carrying out these reex actions.(according to me :P)
