Zinc granules cannot react with sulphate, because sulphate is not a compound, sulphate is an acid radical (SO4)2-, which can form different compounds. Compounds are formed when a metal is united with sulphate.
Now, if zinc react with the solution of a sulphate of a less electropositive metal like Copper sulphate solution, since zinc is more reactive than copper, it will displace copper from copper sulphate solution and a blue solution (copper sulphate) will turn white (due to formation of zinc sulphate solution).
Reaction:
Zn + CuSO4 ----> ZnSO4 + Cu
