Hi !

ZnCO₃ , when heated in the absence of air , gets converted to ZnO , and CO₂ gas is also evolved.

This process , of converting carbonates ores into oxides , in the absence of  air ( limited supply) , is known as calcination.

               Heat
ZnCO₃  ------------> ZnO + CO₂

This metal oxide , is later on converted to metal , by reducing it with Carbon.

ZnO + C ----> Zn + CO
