Your answer is printing press, as it was the greatest source to spread informations related to religious literature and much more. Also it is the main source for the increment of literacy rate from nearly 15% to 77% in Europe and USA.

Before this invention some books were made, but their production was quite low and were much expensive. But after this invention, these books were available much cheaper.

This is the reason why I think that this is the most important invention of the past MILLENNIUM.
