Talking about the real cause of ozone depletion, the only word that comes to mind is 'The CFCs' i.e. chlorofluorocarbons. The CFCs were used in the past as refrigerants and aerosal sprays [however, now they are banned and replaced with greenhouse gases for obvious reasons]. The Cl molecule present in CFCs reacts with O3 ozone molecules and break downs them into O2 molecular oxygen and O atomic oxygen. The Cl molecule is then again released proceeding to react with more O3 molecules. Although the ozone molecules can be regenerated when atomic oxygen reacts with molecular oxygen, the rate of its breakdown is greater than its reformation. So, ultimately ozone layer is depleting day-by-day.
