In the 19th century, British Raj came to India. They showed us their style of doing things like how to eat, drink, dress for different occasions. And we tried to copy them because they seemed well mannered and well behaved than us. People found it impressive and adopted those same techniques.
The main reason for this was to appear more pretentious and speak English.
Psychologists say that we have the same mentality similar to that of our ancestors. When a person wants to seem more mannered, he/she usually make English as a primary tool.
Hindi being the mother tongue can't achieve that eminence as there had been no one from our reign to advertise our language to other countries till now. That's one of the main causes that India had been the only Hindi speaking country for the past years.
We must set limitations to the use of English in professional fields until or unless there is a communication problem between two parties.
If we are able to bring a difference at professional level (job sectors), an automatic change would be seen in the society.
