The sea-route from West India used to be the boarding point for a lot of trade and commerce happening between Europe and South East Asia. As India also was very rich in herbs and spices, which was used to be essential elements of trade at that time. the world then came to know about India and therefore the ocean beneath it was called Indian Ocean.
