Our government has done a lot to provide food security to the poor by launching various schemes such as buffer stock , PDS , Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Annapurna Scheme . Following are the two schemes launched by the government to provide food security to the poor .

1) PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM ( PDS ) : The food procured by the FCI is distributed through government regulated ration shops among the poorer section of the society which is known as PDS . This scheme was launched in 1992 .

ANTYODAYA ANNA YOJANA : This scheme was launched in 2000 for the poorest of the poor by providing them foodgrains up to 35 kg at lowest rates , wheat Rs. 2 per kg and rice at Rs. 3 per kg .
