I will try to be as much objective as possible because I work in IT industry and naturally my views will be biased towards it.
We need figures to answer this question correctly.
Indian IT revolution has contributed $154 billion as revenue in FY 2017.
IT industry happens to be the largest private sector employer in India.
India is worlds third-largest start-up hub, thanks to IT and ITES, with more than 3,100 technology start-ups in 2014–2015 alone.
Now let us examine sentiments of people towards IT. Engineering colleges have mushroomed across India. The only reason is ability to get a decent job in IT industry, if nothing works out after engineering.
Hordes of young people from all parts of India migrate to cities like Bengaluru/Pune/ Hyderabad/Chennai/Bhubaneswar every day of every month. These students go for walk-in interviews, trainings and get selected in IT companies according to their skillsets.
Even MBA students from tier II and tier III colleges prefer IT comoanies due to presence of organized culture, opportunity to visit foreign shores and AC!!! Our generation doesn't aspire to break a sweat on field after spending a substantial amount in education. Tier I MBA college grads prefer financial houses and big brands or unchartered territories of start-ups.
This in turn creates opportunity for other support / service sectors to boom which again helps in employment of other people.
Economy is like a nexus of different institutions. If you pull a single link upward, the whole chain moves upward. Indian economy reaps the benefits every time a person joins in an IT company.
