Methods used to study the ruinsof Hampi:
It was engineer and antiquarian in the English East India company named Colonel Colin Mackenzie who brought the ruins of Hampi into light. He was the first person to prepare the first survey map of the Hampi site.
His initial information was based on the interaction with priest of Viruksha temple and shrine of pampadevi. After 1856, photographers started recording the pictures of this monument which helped the scholars to study them in detail. Later on, many more pictures and inscriptions were collected from the Hampi area and surrounding temple to understand its unique history.
Historians used this information accompanied with foreign accounts details and literature that are composed in the kannada, Tamil, Telegu and Sanskrit in order to reconstruct the history of these places. These others sources complemented the information as provided by the priest of Viruksha temple.
