Britain was the major steel exporter and India imported from Britain only.

During World War I Britain couldn't export the steel produced to other countries as it has to cope up with the demand of steel for the war.

To fulfill the demands of steel in India TISCO was the only way. So, this thing helped it in its expansion of steel production.

Indian Railways turned to TISCO for making of railway carriages. As the war continued for several years TISCO had to produce shells and carriage wheels for war.

As TISCO had to produce more steel so, it had to expand its capacity and extend the size of its factory.

TISCO was able to expand steel production during World War 1 as British imports of steel and iron to India declined as it had to meet war demands in Europe.  This increased market for manufactured steel from TISCO to India as Britain was expected to meet the demands of war; thus the Indian railways went to TISCO to acquire its supply of rails. As the war went on TISCO produced shells and carriage wheels for the war, and over time it became the biggest steel manufacturing company in Britain.
