Because tigers are solitary animals, each specimen has to be able to hunt and kill prey for its survival, since there is not a pack to support them. ... They pounce on their victim, using their strong hind legs to support the struggle with the prey and their front legs to pull the victim to the ground. Tigers can sprint at speed, but cannot chase fastprey like deer for long distances. Instead, they use cunning behaviour to get close enough to launch an attack. ... When the tiger is close enough, it springs from cover, killing the prey with a bite to the neck.
