Explanation:

As a scientific discipline, plant nutrition stands on two legs. One leg is anchored in plant physiology and explains the fundamental processes underlying and regulating the acquisition, allocation, and utilization of mineral elements in plants. The other leg is deeply rooted in an applied, problem-oriented context, explaining the use and action of fertilizers and the cycling of mineral elements in agricultural plant production.

High availability of low cost foods and beverages is challenging nutrition in Plants.

Explanation:

  • Basically plants have two nutrition namely autotrophic and heterotrophic.
  • Autotrophic – Plants exhibit autotrophic nutrition and are called primary producers. Plants synthesis their food by using light carbon dioxide and water.
  • Heterotrophic – Both animals and human beings are called heterotrophs as they depend on plants for their food.
  • High availability of low cost foods and beverages that are also high in calories, fat, salt and sugar.
  • Nutritious foods that are difficult to access for certain segments of the population hence it is challenging for nutrition in plants.
  • Plants need nutrients for the same reasons that animals need them.
  • They need them to germinate, grow, fight off diseases and pests and to reproduce.
  • Like animals nutrients are needed in larger, smaller or trace amounts for the plant to stay healthy.
