Well, gases like Carbon Dioxide, methane etc form a layer of gases in our atmosphere that traps the heat from the sun like a blanket. Allow me to explain. These gases do not allow the heat to escape but allows heat to enter. So, as the sun shoots its rays of heat at Earth , these gases traps them around the planet like a blanket causing the heat to circulate the planet rather than escape out into space. Why is this bad? Well, it increase the temperature of the planet and is the cause for many seasonal and other effects across the globe! Hope it helped!
