Kwashiorkor can be explained as a vital and fetal disease which often leads to the death of the infants and is common in India. It generally occurs to the children below the age of 5 years or of 5 years. It occurs due to the severe deficiency in nutrients such as protein. Alike marasmus, kwashiorkor too occurs while the mother stops breast feeding to her child at an early age. The main cause of this disease is lack of carbohydrates and proteins in the regular diets.

Kwashiorkor shows the symptoms like_

  • Decreasing in weight rapidly.
  • Protruding of belly out.
  • Scaly and dark skin.
  • Stunning in growth.
  • Losing of appetite.
  • Repeated diarrhoea.
  • Enlarged liver and anemia.
  • Swelling of organs.
