In India, a certain number of political positions and university posts are held for specific groups of the population, including Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes, Anglo-Indians and Women. There are reserved constituencies in both Parliamentary and State Assembly elections.

There is a provision of Indian constitution for a special system of reserved constituencies for weaker or those who are not able section in a society.Mostly,constituencies are reserved for people who belong to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.In Scheduled Castes reserved constituency only someone who belongs to the scheduled Castes can vie for election and to Scheduled Tribes only someone who belongs to it can contest for election from a constituency.
