Well really depends on your operational situation, ideally, you would be able to surface and the body would be airlifted to a carrier or other USN ship that has helicopter access. All this would be coordinated with SUBLANT or SUBPAC as the case may be. The worst-case scenario would be operational commitments, where you would not be able to surface. In that case, the body would be placed in a body bag and then stored in the freezer, yes the same freezer that stores the frozen food for the crew. The body would remain until other arrangements could be made. Served on 7 submarines, thank God this never happened on any boat I served on.
