What if KOH is removed in the seed respiration activity

if KOH is removed in the seed respiration activity then the CO2 which will be released by the germinating seed will not be absorbed and any partial vacuum will not be created in the flask because of which the water in the delivery tube will not rise and we will not be able to get the desired results.
