Answer:

Sodium metal reacts rapidly with water to form a colorless solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and hydrogen gas (H2). The resulting solution is basic because of the dissolved hydroxide.

when sodium metal is been put in water a reaction will happen where sodium will be converted into sodium hydroxide. always remember that when sodium metal is in moisture ( water vapour ), there, spontaneous combustion will happen, that is, the sodium metal will start to burn, as the energy or the heat released during the process of this reaction will reach sodium metal's ignition temperature and can cause serious problems.

hope it helps you ✌✌
